Ideas for Mothers Day

We have lots of ideas for gifts and treats for mums this year. There is jewellery by Adele Kime, Marie Canning and Georgie; high quality prints from Ingrid Karlsson-Kemp, Louise Janetta and Erika Robertson and lots of work from local artisans. And knitting kits. And workshops – why not treat mum to a day if arty, creative fun? And there’s still time to get your hands on one of these personalised prints by Alexandra Snowdon.

Ingrid Karlsson-Kemp is teaching a class for us at the end of March. Participants will work with textiles to create an art work inspired by a favourite song or piece of music. Moondance is inspired by the Van Morrison song of the same name and shows how scraps and trimmings can create a magical piece. Thank you Ingrid!

The class is called ‘Rhythm of the Stitch’ and full details are on our workshop page.

All about the knitting

Surrounded by lovely yarn its not surprising that sometimes we crack under the pressure and indulge! Right now, Erika, Cathy and I are obsessed with Artesano Aran. I’m not to sure what Cathy is knitting (she is away at the moment) but Erika and I are both knitting the Sylvan sweater by Sarah Hatton from this…

Sarah Hatton 10 more, simple cosy knitsThe sweater is on the left of the cover, it has simple, square lines and is a straightforward knit.  This is Erika’s first garment; a milestone moment. The pattern is so well written that we have been able to adapt it for the slightly heavier yarn that we are using (with a little bit of math). And I am further adapting it by knitting the body in the round and although right now that means the 11 rows of ‘garter stitich’ mean 220 stitches of ‘stocking stitich’ (you’re following me right?) in 6 rows time it will be ‘knit’ all the way! Look out for photos soon!
