Thank You!!

We have had a fabulous weekend at The Smithy Studios. We opened on Saturday and have had so many lovely visitors for the Derbyshire Open Arts weekend.

These pics give you a flavour of our weekend…

Whats in the shop?

It is well past the time that we shared out beautiful stock – we have been so busy getting the shop ready that blogging slips down the To Do list. Our brilliant team of helpers have had asneak preview. We just love opeing the cupboard day and gazing at the colours of the fabrics and squiching the yarn. We are putting all the stock out today and will take photos but the best way to see this for yourself is to come down and say hello!

We open tomorrow (Saturday) at 10am and will be open all over the Bank Holiday weekend with the Derbyshire Open arts event taking place in our workshop space.

Enough…what have we got in store…

Rowan yarns – there is Kidsilk Haze a blend of super kid mohair and silk.

Purelife Revive – Rowan Purelife Revive is made from used garments which have been selected according to the silk, cotton and viscose content. These are then carded to make regenerated fibre, which is then spun into this beautiful, high quality yarn, which gives life to new hand knitting designs.

I’m knitting this but in the shade ‘rock’. The yarn has a lovely handle and drape.

We have pattern books to support the yarns and  will have lots more Rowan yarns coming for the autumn.

From Patons we have 100% cotton in both 4 ply and DK weights and lots of colours; baby wools and Diploma Gold – in many, many colours.

There are also yarns from independant Fyberspates – we have their Sctumptious yarn (45% Silk, 55% Merino) in lace and DK weights

And all you need to start your knitting and crochet – needles, patterns etc

And then there are the fabrics –  excuse me whilst I name drop – Amy Butler, Kaffe Fassett, Tanya Whelan, Dan Bennett – here’s a selection.

There is a lot more but this is probably enough for now. So don’t forget, if you are in the area please pop in

Counting down…

Just over a week to go…we are opening on the 28th May! There seems to be so much to do and yet we have done so much already! When we look around the Studios we can see that all the substantial work has been completed. The colour scheme is gorgeous. The Studio space is coming together. Deliveries are ariving – being unpacked with much ohhing and ahhing; there is so much lovliness. And beyond the Studios we have a team knitting and crocheting bunting, artists are getting ready for the Derbyshire Open Arts weeekend (28th/29th/30th May) and the sign is being made.

Next week, we will begin to showcase our wares but for now heres a little clue as to the origin of some of our stock…

First Delivery…

Yes, today we took delivery of our first 8 boxes of stock for the shop. But they can’t be opened until Thursday! Meanwhile more orders are being made and money is being spent. We can’t wait to share it with you.

And the opening date draws near – we will be fully open in time for the Derbyshire Open arts event at the studios over the Bank Holiday weekend – 28/29/30 May.

Looking forward to meeting you!

Derbyshire Open Arts

In just over two weeks time we will be open and hosting a range of artists taking part in the Derbyshire Open Arts event over the Bank Holiday weekend 28/29/30 May. Catherine Carr and 5 members of Glossop Fibre Arts Co-operative will be sharing their work and, in Catherines case, studio with you. Between now and the event the co-ops blog will feature all the Glossop artists taking part – 13 in total. They are already on day 3 so hurry over.

On the home front at the studios we are still painting. But some things are being completed – we have commissioned the sign for above the door, ordered stock and washed the sofa covers! And tomorrow we get our phone and broadband.
